2008 Dr. David Wallinga
Dr. Wallinga was recognized for his work on science-based public policies that better protect children from environmental pollutants, especially those that enter the food chain. Research done by IATP and the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy shows that environmental contributors to childhood diseases, such as asthma and some types of cancer, cost Minnesotans some $1.569 billion per year.
2007 Atum Azzahir
Co-founder and director of the Cultural Wellness Center in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Ms. Azzahir was recognized for her innovative work focusing on the role of cultural traditions and beliefs in creating healthy communities with a mission of unleashing the power of citizens to heal themselves and build community.
2006 Winona LaDuke
Founder of the White Earth Land Recovery Project. Ms. LaDuke was recognized for her significant contributions in building awareness of the impact of social, economic and environmental determinants of health by recovering and restoring the original Anishinaabeg land base for sustainable agriculture purposes and preserving the culture, heritage and health of the Anishinaabeg people.
